Mary Austin Monteith graduated with a degree in Business in 1982 from the University of Mississippi and in 1985 from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Upon graduation, she began working with her father, William H. Austin, Jr. in his Hernando office. She became a partner in the law firm in 1989 and opened an office in Southaven where Mary's primary focus became real estate transactions. She is now the senior partner at Austin Law Firm, P.A.
In addition to the busy practice of real estate in DeSoto County, Mary is actively involved in many civic areas. She was a charter member of DeSoto Leadership 2000, and has served on the Board of North Mississippi Homebuilders, the Inaugural Board of the DeSoto Arts Council, and the Prayer Council Board. She is a founder and former board member of DeSoto Family Theatre. In 1997, she was named as the State of Mississippi's Top 40 under 40 and in 2002 was named Volunteer of the Year by the Community Foundation of Mississippi. She is a member of the Southaven Chamber of Commerce, the DeSoto Council, and a 2005 Member of the Board for the North Mississippi Homebuilder Assocation. She is also currently serving on the Board of Directors of the DeSoto County Economic Development Council. She is admitted to practice before the Mississippi Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. She is a member of the DeSoto County Bar Association, the Mississippi Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Mary is a lifelong DeSoto County resident who currently resides in Lake Cormorant with her husband, Sturgis, formerly of Tunica County, who is a Professor at Northwest Community College in Southaven, Mississippi. She has two children who are the pride and joy of her life, Mary McGhee Monteith and John Austin Monteith.
